We are Oakland High School Carpentry and Construction. Taught by Mr. Derry Wells, OHS Carpentry has been working towards teaching students the initial skills of carpentry since we converted our program from a masonry program when Mr. Wells came along in 2011. He has a background in residential construction and woodwork in the mid-state area for 20 years.
Our program teaches the necessary skills for our students to be able to start out as a carpenter apprentice in the workforce upon graduation. We have a great relationship with Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity (RCHFH) and help them with at least 3 house builds a year. We typically frame the homes for them as a way to teach our students, save RCHFH money, and give back to the community.
We also do various projects through the year that allow us to expand our skills into other areas. We have built cabinetry for various offices around our school, remodeled the boys basketball locker room, poured concrete with Agriculture program, and built new picnic tables for the student body courtyard.

Video below is from Highland Woodworker, Atlanta, GA. Great piece on craftsmen and their time honored traditional woodwork. Wonderful ideas as well!
